Recycling and greenwaste operators needed for landfill

The Molokai landfill's recycling facility needs a new contractor to run the operation. A meeting and site visit is scheduled for Sept. 8.

Maui County is requesting proposals for two different operations at the Molokai Landfill.

The landfill in Naiwa, the only landfill on the island, is in need of a contractor to run the Molokai recycling facility and the certified redemption center. The county Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division, is requesting bid offers from recycling facility operators to manage and operate the Molokai Recycling Facility and the Certified Redemption Center at the Molokai Integrated Solid Waste Facility (MISWF).

There will be a pre-bid meeting and site visit on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m. at the Molokai Recycling Facility.

On the same day at noon at the same location will be a pre-proposal meeting and site visit regarding a request for proposals from recycling facility contractors to manage the Molokai greenwaste operations.

Last November, Maui County Mayor Charmaine Tavares awarded a $200,625 contract for a recycling collection event program to Kitagawa Towing & Metal Recycling. Two recycling events were held in the past year.

Copies of the bid package for the recycling facility operator, or the bid proposal package for the greenwaste operations, may be obtained by request at the Purchasing Division, Department of Finance, 2145 Wells Street, Suite 104, Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii, 96793 or by submitting a request in writing to that same address, or by calling 808-249-2403.

Sealed bid offers must be submitted to the Bid Receiver in the Purchasing Division, Department of Finance, located in the Wells Street Professional Center, 2145 Wells Street, Suite 104, Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii, 96793 by or before 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30.
