Mayor Arakawa on Molokai tomorrow for ‘County on Your Corner’

Maui County Mayor Alan Arakawa will meet with local residents tomorrow through his “County on Your Corner” program.

The informal idea-gathering meeting will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Mitchell Pau’ole Center in Kaunakakai.

Maui County Mayor Alan Arakawa will be on Molokai tommorow to listen to the concerns of local residents.

Maui County Council Chairman Danny Mateo will be at the 'County on Your Corner' event tomorrow.

“It is important to connect with people face to face,” Arakawa stated in a news release. ” ‘County on Your Corner,’ which is scheduled in a different location each month, is a good way for myself and members of my Cabinet to interact with the community on the issues that are of most interest to them.”

Maui County Council Chairman Danny Mateo, who holds the Molokai residency seat, will join Arakawa and other county officials.

At least one person will address Mayor Arakawa tomorrow regarding complaints against the Molokai Humane Society. An unsigned flyer has been distributed around Molokai asking the County of Maui to stop funding the MHS until “corrections” are made.

The flyer claims that the newly hired Executive Director Jennifer Whitted and Board Member Matt Goodrich “have grossly steered away from what the purpose of organization was created (sic) and intended to be from its founders.”

  1. I really don’t understand the people who have to have their 15 seconds of fame in order to derail a function that has been helping many hundreds of Molokai residents and countless pets. Why can’t they work within the system and keep the in-fighting out of the press and County politics?

For whatever complaints there may be against the current management, the prospect of having to get on the ferry with a sick or injured pet to take it to Maui for veterinary care is beyond many of us to manage financially or physically.

There is a real core of nut jobs out there who just want to bitch and moan but never get off their butts to do any serious work for the organization or the clinic. The work of the clinic has been a godsend to pets and pet owners on Molokai and desperately needs to continue without interruption. If you’ve got all that energy to be complaining so loudly, put it to work and volunteer!
