Kanohowailuku Helm took his campaign for the District 7 Senate seat on the road yesterday.

Helm will be using his time this weekend to travel around Maui, canvassing to promote his candidacy as an Independent.

If Helm wins the nomination as an Independent or receives at least 10 percent of the total vote in the Aug. 11 primary, he will appear on the ballot in the general election against the Democratic and Republican candidates. Senator J. Kalani English is the incumbent in District 7 with Molokai’s Barbara Haliniak challenging him for the Democratic nomination.

Helm will appear in the Kalawao Paniolo Parade tomorrow, July 7, at 9 a.m. He will visit Saint Mary’s Church in Hana on Sunday at noon. On July 13 he travels to Maui Community College. Other events are being scheduled and will be posted as soon as times are certain.

The plan is for Helm to walk precincts and hold informal talk story sessions wherever there is interest.

Anyone interested in scheduling a talk story, or seeking more information, should post a request on his website, helmforsenate.com, or on HelmforSenate on Facebook. On Facebook and Youtube you can also view a dozen short films, which explain who he is, why he is running, and his main concerns.

Kanoho and filmmaker P.F. Bentley have just released six new films. They are: “Our Time,” “To Vote or Not to Vote,” “What Country is This?,” “Connections,” “Agriculture,” and “Health Care.” These should help clear up many questions about his positions and intentions.
